The latest Collective Horology collaboration is not some grande horology finery from the ancient mines of Switzerland, but alternatively, it’s a special version of a solid dive watch from Formex. The new Reef Radiant Bronze COSC 300M for Collective takes the Formex formula and pairs this modern jump watch design with a cleaned bronze call and a black ceramic relief bezel. It was my very first extended experience with a Formex watch and i also am seriously impressed by the fit, finish, in addition to general ergonomics of the Ocean diver. The case is lovely, surprisingly thin, and wears really well on my 7-inch wrists. Thanks in no small part to the thinness of the case and the usefulness of that co2 deployant clasp, I found that I vastly preferred the rubber strap towards the steel bracelet, which also seemed to offer a better match for the Connection edition’s dark-colored bezel.
The actual bezel action is good, using a light 120-click action and lots of feedback, which is amazing for a bezel that can be easily popped off and swapped for a different color. I had expected the particular bezel to be a bit loose, or incredibly over-tight, but it fit perfectly and worked just like a normal bezel. Furthermore, I like the idea that you could mix-n-match a bit plus I’d bet that any of the additional color options would look great with the bronze switch.

And really, which dial is the main event for this special creation made in cooperation with Association Horology. For this execution, Formex has used a ename to the call that will prevent any oxidation. Interestingly, while I am usually pretty lukewarm on bronze coloring or the idea of two-tone watches in general, this vertically brushed face glows and even changes colour in a way that I found really entertaining.
